The Syracuse University School of Information Studies (iSchool) will host a Social Media Tweetup for registrants of the Syracuse BizBuzz Conference and members of Syracuse’s social media community. The Tweetup will take place 5-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, at the Syracuse Technology Garden, 235 Harrison St., Syracuse.

The Tweetup event will feature light refreshments and networking; a forum for sharing social media tips, techniques, questions and ideas; and how-to training for new users of social media who want to get started with tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. The event will also include welcome remarks and presentations from Anthony Rotolo, iSchool social media strategist and professor of practice, and Jill Hurst-Wahl, information consultant and iSchool professor of practice. R.S.V.P.s are requested to ischool@syr.edu or (315) 443-2911.

bizzbuzzThe Tweetup is a pre-conference event of the BizBuzz Social Media Conference on Thursday, May 27, at the OnCenter in Syracuse. The BizBuzz Social Media Conference is a gathering of people interested in the business use of social media. The full-day conference will explore the impact social media has on marketing, advertising and tools used to engage the public.

The keynote speaker of BizBuzz is Dave Evans, a global thought-leader in the application of Web 2.0 technologies in business. Working with brands like Pepsi, Dell and Philips in the United States, Europe, Asia and South America, Evans leads cross-functional teams in the implementation of collaborative technology solutions that measurably drive businesses. Evans is the author of “Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day” (Sybex, 2008) and writes a regular business column at ClickZ.com.

The BizBuzz conference will feature morning and afternoon breakout sessions on marketing businesses through various social media tools; mini sessions on blogging, Foursquare, SEO, e-mail marketing, reputation management, creating buzz, analytics and return on investment; case studies of social media use in nonprofits; and a networking reception. Conference registration is available at http://www.syracusebizbuzz.com.

The BizBuzz Social Media Conference is a production of the Events Company, Site-Seeker Inc. and Digital Vertical, with partners at Syracuse University’s iSchool, Falcone Center, Center for Career Services and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications; Visual Technologies; Syracuse.com; the Central New York Business Journal; Plus Sign and Graphic; and the Greater Syracuse Chamber of Commerce.
