Keith Bybee, vice dean and Paul E. and Hon. Joanne F. Alper ’72 Judiciary Studies Professor, was interviewed by Deseret News for the piece, “Why some conservative media stars are cussing like sailors and Democrats.”
This article explains how conservative broadcasters are testing the boundaries by using profane language in order to contrast with their often pro-family messaging. Bybee explained this phenomenon, saying, “In an abstract sense, profanities still exist. What’s changed is what words are on the list. But there were lots of words in there that if you said them today, they would get you fired.”
