“Carrie Mae Weems Is Spreading Truth About Covid-19.”

Work by Carrie Mae Weems, University Artist in Residence, was featured in the Surface Magazine story “Carrie Mae Weems Is Spreading Truth About Covid-19.” Weems latest work, titled Resist Covid, Take 6!, focuses on how the COVID 19 pandemic has disproportionately affected Black, Indigenous, and other Americans of color. Weem’s work serves as a public service art campaign to remind communities about precautions they must take to stay safe. “It’s really about trying to assist saving lives by systematically informing people over and over and over, even when our president won’t, the basic things that they must do in order to survive this pandemic,” says Weems.
