Peers Help ECS Students Master Course Material in Academic Excellence Workshops

College of Engineering and Computer Science

The Academic Excellence Workshops (AEW) are geared toward achieving success in courses in engineering and math. AEW sessions are peer-facilitated, one-credit, pass/fail courses designed to supplement the instruction in many first- and second-year courses. Students are able to register for these classes during the course add period via MySlice.

Participants not only leave with superb understanding of the material, but also with new organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills. The Academic Excellence Workshop is an excellent opportunity for students to meet their peers and establish new study groups as they learn essential course material.

“It is your peers helping you master core subjects,” says Drew Jacobson ’19.

“The sessions are run by students who have taken the courses before, so they definitely have had the professors who are teaching the current session,” says Jackie Cheung ’18. “AEW definitely opens up communication. It opens up a path for academic success.”

“It was nice to be in these settings and then take it to an exam and not feel the same stresses before I was taking an AEW in this class,” says Sherrod Klerge ’18.
