People sometimes claim to have actually gotten the flu from the vaccine, because they came down with the illness soon after being vaccinated. Syracuse University Health Center Supervising Pharmacist Michele Frontale explains that this is just an illusion.
“The vaccine isn’t made from a live flu virus, so it can’t possibly cause someone to get the flu,” she says. “If you get the flu soon after being vaccinated, that means you were already exposed before getting the vaccine. That’s why the earlier you get vaccinated, the better.”
In order to get an early start on being protected from the flu, get vaccinated at Syracuse University’s clinic for students, faculty and staff on Wednesday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. in Flanagan Gymnasium.
