Mehrotra Named Chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

Kishan Mehrotra, a longtime professor of computer science in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, has accepted a new role as the department chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, beginning on Jan. 1. Chilukuri Mohan, who will serve as interim dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science held the position most recently.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this department. I have been provided a very strong platform to take off from. I expect that during my tenure as chair, it will continue to grow and improve. I hope to raise the reputation of the department in terms of research and teaching quality,” says Mehrotra, “Fortunately, I have every reason to expect this will grow because our current faculty is doing a fantastic job in terms of research. We are already, in my opinion, very strong and by continuing to grow, we can earn a higher regard within the University and in the broader academic community.”

Mehrotra has been a professor at Syracuse University for over 40 years. In addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, he has published a great deal of research, primarily in the areas of artificial intelligence and statistics. His most recent work focuses on bioinformatics, anomaly detection and social networks. Previously, he served as program director of the computer science program.
