The annual Wellness Week, coordinated by Health and Wellness Promotions in the Division of Student Affairs, will kick off Sunday, April 20, on campus.

A variety of campus-wide departments and student organizations have collaborated on this year’s “Celebration of Total Wellness.” Students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the week’s fun, feel-good, educational activities, and share their experience on social media using #SUWellnessWeek.

“The purpose of Wellness Week is to highlight the many health and wellness offerings for students, faculty and staff at SU,” says Katelyn Cowen, health and wellness promotions specialist. “This is a great opportunity to learn about and try new things that can better your overall well-being—your mind, body and spirit.”

Student favorites from last year’s Wellness Week will return, including the Monday Mile run/walk and 5k run, organized by Recreation Services and Healthy Monday Syracuse, and Paws for Stress Relief dog therapy on the Quad.

On Wednesday, April 23, a Health and Wellness Expo will take place in Flanagan Gymnasium to provide the University community with access to the most distinguished local organizations that spotlight healthy products and services. New awareness programs include a “Stomp Out Stigma” mural to promote mental health and a “Scale Smash” demonstrating our worth is not defined by a number, hosted by SU Active Minds and SHAPES student organizations.

Other activities to look forward to are free yoga, Zumba and barefoot training fitness classes; Hands Only CPR certification; and meditation opportunities.

On April 24, registered participants can “lunch and learn” during “Mindful Eating: Keeping it Simple and Satisfying” or “A Place at the Table—Oh! The Places You’ll Go: Living with Crohn’s, Colitis, IBS, IBD and More,” both offering offer gluten-free and kosher food options.

For a full schedule of events with details, visit http://wellnessweek.syr.edu. For additional questions or to request accommodations, contact Cowen at kucowen.syr.edu or 315-443-3514.
