Two $250 awards are on the line in the SU Showcase for Sustainability 2012 video competition. But to have a shot at them, students must register their video concepts by this Friday, March 30.

SU Showcase 12SU Showcase organizers are calling on students to share their bold and creative video visions for a “greener” future. The short, original student videos must pitch a solution to the question: What should we do in the next five years to move toward a more sustainable world? Videos should offer ideas aimed at reducing the environmental and/or social impacts of human behavior.

The video competition is open to all Syracuse University and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) students. Individual and team projects are welcome, and multidisciplinary student teams are encouraged.

All accepted video entries will be screened at this year’s SU Showcase event on April 18. From the entries, as many as 12 sustainability fellows will be chosen. Fellows will also need to create posters outlining the main point of their videos. Funds are available to reimburse students for the cost of producing their posters. Fellows will receive campuswide recognition, a dinner in their honor and be considered for one of the two $250 awards. The prizes will be awarded in individual and team categories during SU Showcase.

To register for the SU Showcase video competition, complete the form at http://sushowcase.syr.edu/fellows/ by March 30. All videos must be submitted by 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 3. Applicants chosen for sustainability fellowships will be notified by April 6.

SU Showcase for Sustainability 2012—the campus-wide, spring academic event, this year celebrating the “green economy”—will be held on April 18 and 19. The event will take place all day on April 18 in Schine Student Center. On April 19, SU Showcase moves to the Syracuse Center of Excellence, where a green career expo will be held.

For more information about the video competition, and how you can get involved with SU Showcase, contact Rachel May at sumay@syr.edu or 315-443-9726, or visit http://sushowcase.syr.edu.
