SU students invited to attend Sept. 15 information session on two-week EuroTech trip next summer
All matriculated Syracuse University undergraduate and graduate students are invited to apply to be part of a two-week EuroTech travel abroad experience Aug. 7-21, 2011. The GET 400/600 EuroTech course and travel abroad experience is a 15-day educational seminar focused on experiencing the workplace and culture of major global corporations in seven cities in five countries throughout Europe.
Students will be immersed in the culture of London, Amsterdam, Paris, Lyon, Geneva, Zurich and Munich, while learning about how some of the largest global corporations use information technology to address global technology challenges. Students will earn two to three credits for their participation in EuroTech, which is limited to 30 students.
An information session will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 15, in 347 Hinds Hall, and at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 29, in the Milton Room in the Whitman School building.
The course is being taught by iSchool Professor Dave Dischiave, director of the M.S. in information management program and an IT professional with more than 30 years’ experience in such positions as computer programmer, systems analyst, project manager, software engineering manager and director of application development.
Tuition for the course is covered as part of the regular spring 2011 semester tuition (credits cannot exceed 19 in total ). Travel expenses are estimated to be around $3,000, which includes roundtrip airfare, housing, some group meals, transportation expenses between cities and entrance fees. The final cost will be established once airfare and other expenses have been confirmed.
Students must submit the application and a $60 non-refundable application fee to SU Abroad by Oct. 11. All applications will be reviewed by an admissions committee made up of the iSchool and a SU Abroad representative. Students will be notified of their acceptance by Oct. 22. Upon acceptance, a $500 non-refundable deposit is required to confirm participation in the program. This is due within 10 days. Final payment will be due Dec. 10.
EuroTech was developed as part of the Global Enterprise Technology Programs, powered by SU’s collaboration with JPMorgan Chase. Preference will be given to 1) GET Immersion Experience students, 2) GET students, 3) iSchool, Whitman School and L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science students, 4) all other SU undergraduate students, 5) non-SU undergraduate students, 6) graduate students.
