SU NEWS AND EVENTS COVERAGE

The EnergyPortal.eu web site reported on the U.S. Department of Energy announcement of $30 million in grants for energy-efficient housing partnerships, including Syracuse University on the Advanced Residential Integrated Energy Solutions team focusing on energy solutions for new and existing affordable housing.

Sharif Bey, a dual assistant professor of art education in the School of Education and College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), has work on exhibition at the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, as reported in an America.gov review. Three of Bey’s pieces are in the embassy’s permanent collection.

Newswise and the Huffington Post reported on the Whitman School of Management’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities (EBV) program. Whitman Dean Melvin T. Stith and Mike Haynie, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in the Whitman School and program founder, were quoted in the Newswise report.

The Washington Post reviewed the classical recording of the Summit Records compact disc, “An American Soldier’s Tale, Histoire du Soldat,” which features the work of a number of VPA’s Setnor School of Music faculty and staff members. John M. Laverty, professor and director of University Bands, produced the recording; and James S. Abbott, Setnor’s senior audio engineer and a faculty member, engineered, mixed and mastered it. Faculty members Jill Coggiola, Edward Castilano and Michael Bull performed with the American Chamber Winds for the recording on the SU campus.

The Post-Standard briefly noted the appointment of Carolyn Weber, voice instructor in the Setnor School in VPA, as Syracuse Children’s Chorus interim conductor of chorale and Barbara M. Tagg as chorus director emerita.
