The annual “Music Beyond Borders: International Music Festival” is scheduled to present a rich display of local and international cultural artists at the Schine Underground on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 6-8 p.m. Coordinated by the Slutzker Center for International Services within the Division of Student Affairs, this longstanding tradition is part of SU’s celebration of International Education Week and features music, poetry and dance. The event is free and open to the public.
Tickets are available at the Schine Box Office. After the performance, audience members are invited to join the artists in a complimentary dinner buffet of diverse ethnic foods.
“Music Beyond Borders” is the fruit of a collaborative vision led by Syracuse University campus and community partners, including the Department of Art and Music Histories in the School of Arts and Sciences, and the International Center of Syracuse. Additional partners and supporters of the event include the Chinese Student and Scholar Association, The iSchool, L.C. Smith School of Engineering and Computer Science, Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity Inc., Fulbright Association (CNY Chapter), Phi Beta Delta International Honor Society and Bird Library.
For the second year, Biboti Ouikahilo, master African dancer, drummer and choreographer, has served as the artist in residence, teaching students and community members traditional West African dance. The residency will culminate with a piece in the performance.
