Journalist Luisita Lopez Torregrosa will visit Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications on Tuesday, Nov. 9, as part of the school’s Leaders in Communications lecture series.

Nearly 100 students from the Newhouse School will turn their attention to the local town of Auburn this fall, spending the weekend of Oct. 15-17 getting to know the community during an annual multimedia and photo workshop.

Multimedia journalist Tom Kennedy, who recently joined the faculty of Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, will be inducted as the Alexia Tsairis Chair for Documentary Photography in a special ceremony on Thursday, Oct. 21.

This fall, at five universities including SU, Cotton Inc. launched the “Cotton. From Blue to Green.®” denim drive, a call to action to donate denim and give it a new life by converting it into natural cotton fiber insulation.

Keith Burton, president of the communications company Insidege, will visit the Newhouse School on Monday, Oct. 11.

Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and Hendricks Chapel will host conversations with Daisy Khan, executive director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement (ASMA), on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The green activist recounts a career of making change in her South Bronx neighborhood.

Writer/director Rod Lurie will visit the Newhouse School on Thursday, Sept. 23, and Friday, Sept. 24, to discuss and present an advance screening of his film “Straw Dogs,” a remake of the original.

Local resident Jake Penny, 14, has always dreamed of writing and starring in his own movie. That dream became a reality this summer with the help of students and alumni from the Newhouse School’s Television-Radio-Film (TRF) department.

The Newhouse School will host two events this fall to honor the life and teaching legacy of the late professor Bill Glavin.
