The Department of Drama in the College of Visual and Performing Arts has announced its 2010/2011 season.

Work by longtime VPA faculty members John Orentlicher, Michael Sickler and Barbara Ellen Walter will be presented in the exhibition “Contemporary Practices in the Arts” May 6-June 30 at the Louise and Bernard Palitz Gallery at Joseph I. Lubin House.

August Wilson’s “Fences” will open May 5 at Syracuse Stage.

Syracuse Stage will hold local Equity auditions for the 2010/2011 season on Tuesday, May 11, from noon-8 p.m., and on Friday, May 14, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Nine area high school students have been chosen as the winners of the 12th annual Young Playwrights Festival at Syracuse Stage. The winning works will be performed by students from the Department of Drama in Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), at a staged reading at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, in the Archbold Theatre at Syracuse Stage, 820 East Genesee St.

Barbara Bradley Hagerty, religion correspondent for National Public Radio and author of the best-selling “Fingerprints of God” (Riverhead, 2009), will lead a public conversation, titled “Investigating Religious Scandals: Exploring the Science of Spirituality and More” on Monday, April 26.

The interface between syntax and phonology in linguistics is the subject of a two-day workshop at Syracuse University.

Senior fashion design students in the School of Art and Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts will present their collections in the 23rd Annual Fashion Show on Thursday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. and Friday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m.

Arthur Danto, a renowned philosopher and the Johnsonian Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at Columbia University, will give the lecture “Kant and the Work of Art” on Wednesday, April 28, at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium.
