Lauryn Gouldin, Crandall Melvin Associate Professor of Law and Director, Syracuse Civics Initiative at the Law School, was quoted by The Associated Press for the series, “Not Real News: A look at what didn’t happen this week,” a news roundup by the AP to combat misinformation. In the article, Gouldin clears up the claim that Illinois’ SAFE-T Act no longer puts violent criminals in custody before trial. She states, “Suspects can still be jailed pretrial if they are considered a public safety risk or likely to flee to avoid criminal prosecution.”
