Shelley Kohan, adjunct faculty member in the Whitman School, was interviewed for the VeryWell Mind story “Can Supermarket Design Really Impact What You Buy?” Kohan, a retail executive with 25 years of experience, explained that many grocery stores are following new store layout trends in order to boost sales. “Historically, grocery stores kind of have a set format. So, they have fixtures that are placed, and then merchandise and food are put out based on the fixture placement. What we’re seeing now is that there’s a greater need to have more flexible fixturing. So for example, fixturing that is on wheels that can easily be moved,” Kohan said.
