“Taking the Museum Experience Outdoors”
Andrew Saluti, assistant professor of museum studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, was quoted in The New York Times story “Taking the Museum Experience Outdoors.” Saluti, who teaches museum installation and curatorship, explained that the outdoors is giving museums a new way to tell engaging visual stories. “It’s become a medium to engage the community as well as global audiences,” Saluti said.
He also noted that outdoor museum programming can help keep museums successful financially by bringing in new revenue, particularly during the pandemic. “Small museums or ones with limited or no endowments have taken a financial hit in the last two years, so they need funds to stay open,” he said.
