Brian Taylor, professor of political science in the Maxwell School, was quoted in the BBC Brazil story “How power, isolation and the quest for legacy led Putin to risk further incursion into Ukraine.” Taylor, who studies Russian politics and militarism, is an expert on Putin and his style of rule. He explained that Putin’s desire to remain in power despite his age was a huge motivator behind the Russian invasion of Ukraine. “On the eve of his 70th birthday, Putin is certainly worried about his legacy, and one of the ‘unfinished business’ of his administration is precisely his relationship with Ukraine,” Taylor said.
