“Syracuse City School District sees significant gains in graduation rates”
George Theoharis, professor of educational leadership and inclusive elementary/early childhood education in the School of Education, was interviewed for the WAER story “Syracuse City School District sees significant gains in graduation rates.” Theoharis, who previously served as the associate dean for Urban Education Partnerships, remembers when graduation rates in the City School District were below 50%. He said that increasing local graduation rates are a huge step forward for Syracuse.
“I mean in these times if we are seeing authentic growth with kids’ outcome that should be celebrated. It means, during these hard times, the kids and their families and their teachers and staff, have found a way to make schoolwork that perhaps wasn’t working a few years ago,” Theoharis said. That’s really interesting considering all the problems around Covid and attendance and connecting with kids.”
