Alan Allport, professor of history in the Maxwell School, authored The Washington Post opinion piece “George V, the proudly ‘ordinary’ king who rebranded the British monarchy.” Allport, an expert on British history who recently authored the book “Britain at Bay: The Epic Story of the Second World War 1938-1941,” discussed the legacy George V, the king of England during WWI. The opinion piece was a reflection on author Jane Ridley’s latest book, “George V: Never a Dull Moment,” which covers how historical accounts of George V being a “boring” man are largely unfair.
