Campus Safety and Emergency Management Services has appointed a new director of emergency management and business continuity planning. William Karnadi, CEM, CBCP, joins Syracuse University from New York University (NYU), where he served as the emergency management manager for the last several years.

“We are thrilled to have William join our team here at Campus Safety,” says Department of Public Safety Deputy Chief John Sardino. “He brings to the table vast experience and knowledge that will assist us with taking our emergency preparedness to the next level.”
Karnadi has experience developing and implementing Comprehensive Emergency Management Plans (CEMP) and procedures for higher education institutions to prepare for and respond to emergency-related situations. Additionally, he has conducted strategic planning with multiple stakeholders to develop, test and manage a process of isolating and quarantining students during COVID-19. Karnadi has also had experience developing continuity of operations programs by conducting business impact analyses, identifying IT application dependencies and developing recovery strategies for NYU’s campuses in New York City, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.
Karnadi is a veteran with the United States Army with one combat deployment to Afghanistan as an infantryman.
In addition to holding the Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) and Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) certifications, Karnadi holds a master of public administration degree in management from NYU and a bachelor of arts degree in government and law from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
Karnadi recently relocated to the Syracuse area from downstate, and has settled into the area with his fiancée and their dog.
