Nina Kohn, David M. Levy Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Online Education in the College of Law, was quoted in the Kiplinger story “What to Do When a Family Member Needs a Guardian.” Kohn, an expert on elder care law, said it is important for many elders to have a guardian as “older adults with cognitive decline and those with intellectual disabilities historically have been treated as expendable.” Guardianships help support family members with personal affairs and act as a protection from courts of law that do not always have the safeguards needed to protect the elderly.
