The City of Syracuse Discusses Segregation in Its School System

George Theoharis, Professor of Educational Leadership and Inclusive Elementary/Early Childhood Education in the School of Education, was interviewed for the CNY Central piece “The Map: leading to conversations at Syracuse School board about segregation in schools.”

Theoharis discussed the issue the city of Syracuse is facing in terms of segregation in schools and the impact this is having on standardized test score gaps. He stated, “We’re going to have a hard time desegregating Syracuse within the city alone. Because of hyper segregation, we’re seeing because of concentration of race and poverty.”
