Austin Kocher, research assistant professor at Newhouse with the Transactional Research Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), was quoted in stories for the Houston Chronicle, a KNKX story, as well as the Time Magazine story, “The Trump-Era ‘Remain in Mexico’ Policy Is Winding Down. But More Than 4,600 Are Left Out.”
Kocher remarks on these policies saying, “The purpose of the Migrant Protection Protocols was to undermine the asylum process along the U.S.-Mexico border. One has to ask whether any of the proceedings that took place, any of the hearings that took place, were legitimate… I would say that both the data and also on-the-ground reporting shows that that was not the case.”
