“In Australia, Hollywood Stars Have Found an Escape From the Virus. Who’s Jealous?”

Robert Thompson, Trustee Professor of television, radio and film and director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was interviewed by The New York Times for the story “In Australia, Hollywood Stars Have Found an Escape From the Virus. Who’s Jealous?” Thompson, an expert on pop culture and the movie industry, says that the current celebrity exodus from the U.S. shows a cultural shift that focuses less on Hollywood being the endgame for all actors. “These Hollywood stars have been transported to another world where the problems of this world aren’t,” Thompson says.
