“Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview marks turning point.”
Robert Thompson, Trustee Professor of television, radio and film and director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was quoted in The Guardian story “Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview marks turning point.” Thompson, an expert on pop culture, says the interview between the former royals and Oprah begs the question of of who the bigger star is: the interviewer or the interviewees. However, ultimately Thompson sees the interview as a marker of Meghan and Harry’s transition into non-royal life, saying that “a primetime Oprah interview maybe one of the really symbolic moments of arrival because Oprah is, and always was, always about reinvention.”
