Whitney Phillips, assistant professor of communication and rhetorical studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, was interviewed for the Politico story “Neera Tanden Got Twitter Right — And That Was Her Problem.” Phillips, an expert on digital ethics and political communication, says that political tweets pose certain risks, as negative reactions often arise when a tweet surfaces with an audience that doesn’t resonate with a particular message. No matter how good one’s intentions may be, Phillips says “it’s impossible to control any of our messages. You can only focus on the consequences.”
