Osamah Khalil, associate professor of history in the Maxwell School, was interviewed by PBS NewsHour for the segment “Ten years after the Arab Spring, democracy remains elusive in Egypt.” Khalil, an expert on modern Middle Eastern history, says that while many think of the Arab Spring as being a finished failure, in reality the movement is still underway. However, despite believing the movement still has power, Khalil also says that Egypt has learned “that you can start an uprising, but turning an uprising into a revolution is very difficult.”
