Check-In Information for Jan. 30 and 31

Thursday, January 28, 2021, By News Staff

Dear Students and Families:

As you prepare to return to campus, we write to share with you a few last-minute reminders to ensure your check-in process proceeds smoothly. Outlined in this email are details on the following:

  • Pre-Arrival Testing Requirement and Quarantine Guidelines
  • Arrival Instructions (Check in 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)
  • Using Public Transportation/Arriving via Ride Share or Taxi
  • Move-In Reminders
  • Late Arrival (Arriving after 8 p.m.)

Pre-Arrival Testing Requirement and Quarantine Guidelines

According to the New York State Department of Health, you must receive a COVID-19 test within a three-day window, prior to your arrival in New York State. As soon as you receive your COVID-19 test result, upload it to the Student Patient Portal. This must be done prior to returning to campus.

If your test results are still pending before you are scheduled to travel, please continue with your plans to travel to Syracuse. We will work with you to provide temporary accommodations while you await results. Parents, family members and guests should plan to depart from the check-in center after you have arrived.

Importantly, students will not be able to quarantine on campus unless they provide proof they have taken a pre-arrival test within the three-day window. This is a New York State requirement. If a student does not take a pre-arrival test, they should expect to quarantine off campus for 10 days at their own expense.

You can review testing and quarantine instructions here.

Complete guidelines for the quarantine period are available online here, and you will also receive a hard copy upon check-in.

Arrival Instructions (Check in 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.)

Please report to the Campus Check-in Center at the Ensley Athletic Center by navigating to the Manley North Lot. Representatives from Parking and Transit Services will control the flow of traffic from there into the Manley South lot and the drop-off area in front of the Ensley Center. Students will exit their vehicles and proceed through the check-in process inside the Ensley Center.

At check in, students will be asked to take the following steps:

  • Confirm proof of pre-arrival negative COVID test (via Patient Portal or hard copy results);
  • Verify proof of flu vaccine or exemption (via Patient Portal or hard copy);
  • Participate in COVID surveillance testing; and
  • Affirm the Stay Safe Pledge.

At the conclusion of the check-in process, students will be issued a wristband to demonstrate proof of compliance and will proceed to their residence hall or to South Campus check-in at the Goldstein Student Center to receive their keys.

Using Public Transportation/Arriving via Ride Share or Taxi

Students do not need a vehicle to complete the check-in process. Direct the ride share or taxi driver to the drop-off location in the Manley South lot. Students should then proceed through the check-in process inside the Ensley Center. There will be an area in the Ensley Center to store luggage. Once the check-in process is complete, University transportation will take students to their residence halls or to South Campus check-in and then on to their apartment.

If you need transportation from Syracuse Hancock International Airport, the University is providing transportation free of charge. Please fill out the airport transportation form to request a ride.

Move-In Reminders

  • No guests will be allowed in residence halls or apartments. Guests will be asked to stay by their vehicles to assist students. Move-in bins will be available. If further accommodation or additional assistance is needed, please complete the move-in assistance registration form.
  • Guests of students may only stay on campus for two hours from the time the student arrives at their on-campus residence.
  • Masks must be worn at all times.
  • Roommates are encouraged to stagger their move-in times.

Late Arrival (Arriving after 8 p.m.)

If you are unable to reach campus before the check-in center closes at 8 p.m., you should arrange to spend the night at a local hotel, and then proceed through the check-in process the following morning. The University has provided a list of local hotels for this purpose.

If you arrive late on the evening of Jan. 29 or Jan. 30, proceed to the Ensley Center beginning at 8 a.m. the following day. If your travel is delayed or if you need assistance, please call the Syracuse University COVID Help Desk at 315.443.6180 from 8 a.m.–10 p.m. After 10 p.m., please contact the Department of Public Safety at 315.443.2224.

We look forward to your arrival on Jan. 30 and 31, and we are excited to welcome you back to campus!

Sincerely,

Robert D. Hradsky, Ed.D.
Vice President for the Student Experience
