Dear Members of the Orange Community:
Last spring, Syracuse University was forced to postpone in-person Commencement activities for the Class of 2020. At the time, the University promised the Class of 2020 that we would host an in-person Commencement at the stadium when public health guidelines permit. When restrictions on the size of indoor gatherings, which have been in place since the onset of the pandemic, are lifted, we will proceed with a Commencement for the Class of 2020.
Currently, the number of people permitted at indoor gatherings at Syracuse University is limited by New York State. The region is experiencing high rates of COVID-19 infections. We are hopeful that broad access to vaccines over the next months will improve conditions, allowing for severe restrictions on gatherings to be lifted.
This is a disappointing situation for all of us. I assure you that the Class of 2020 will receive an in-person celebration that appropriately recognizes your achievements. We look forward to welcoming you back to campus just as soon as it is safe to do so.
