Theo Cateforis, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in fine arts and music history & cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences, was quoted in the NBC News story “Bob Dylan sells entire song catalog to Universal Media Group.” Cateforis, an expert in popular American music, says that the sale of Dylan’s songwriting catalog means that his music can now be used in a variety of licensing deals. “At one time, back in the 80s or 90s there may have been considerable resistance to this kind of ‘selling out,’ but this has become a more common practice over the past couple of decades,” says Cateforis.
