“Pandemic Raises, Lowers Hurdles for Voters with Disabilities.”
Nina Kohn, the David M. Levy Professor of Law and faculty director of online education in the College of Law, was quoted in The Pew Charitable Trusts/Stateline story “Pandemic Raises, Lowers Hurdles for Voters with Disabilities.” Kohn, an expert in disability and elder law, says there are often barriers restricting the accommodations of voters with disabilities and COVID 19 has only worsened the situation. “With COVID, many individuals don’t have access to family members and friends who would provide that assistance. In congregate care settings, how to they obtain a mail-in ballot? In many states, they have to request a ballot. How do they obtain that request? Not all have access to the internet. Or they may have muscular problems that make it hard to maneuver around a computer,” says Kohn.
