Election 2020

As the 2020 election nears, Syracuse University is holding a number of virtual events to discuss issues, promote dialogue and help students learn more about the election and its implications through the lens of disciplines, including media, law, public policy, economics and spirituality.

A full listing of Election 2020 events is available on the University Events Calendar.

Informal Dialogue Sessions

A series of informal dialogue sessions for students, sponsored by the Student Activism Engagement Team, Division of Enrollment and the Student Experience’s Cultural Centers, and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, will be held on Oct. 28-29 and Nov. 1-6. Facilitated by students and staff, these dialogue sessions will provide students an opportunity to reflect on and learn more about their beliefs and those of their peers. Students will be encouraged to share their experiences, perspectives and thoughts on how the election will impact the future of the country.

Roundtables, Panel Discussions and Conversations

In addition, over the next two weeks, students can engage with Syracuse University faculty experts via roundtables and drop-in conversations, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs. This series includes Election 2020: Facilitated Dialogues & Roundtable Discussion on Nov. 2 from 12:30-2 p.m., Election 2020–Informal Drop-in Conversations with faculty on Nov. 3 from 12:30-2 p.m and the post-election program Election Recap: What Happened and What’s Next? on Nov. 4 from 12:30-2 p.m.  Registration is required to access the Zoom meetings.

“As a university, we are uniquely privileged to provide our community opportunities to engage with important issues and the dynamics of the 2020 election. The multi-disciplinary expertise of our faculty fosters exploration and a nuanced understanding of the public rhetoric and key policy issues under consideration by voters across the political spectrum,” says LaVonda Reed, associate provost for faculty affairs.
