“Low Expectations in Mexico as US Election Approaches”
Gladys McCormick, associate professor of history in the Maxwell School, was quoted in The Associated Press article “Low Expectations in Mexico as US Election Approaches.” Some Mexicans have low expectations that Donald Trump will be defeated in the upcoming election, and while many would like to see a more cordial president they feel they can handle to outcome if they have survived the past four years of his presidency. However, McCormick, an expert on U.S.-Mexico relations, says Mexico’s president will have to play a greater role in taking responsibility over border violence if Biden wins the election. “It’s putting Mexico at a more vulnerable position than otherwise had (López Obrador) actually taken more of a concerted, organized line about security in Mexico,” says McCormick.
