“How Americans Are Reacting to Trump’s COVID-19 Diagnosis.”

Shana Kushner Gadarian, associate professor of political science in the Maxwell School, was quoted in the FiveThirtyEight story “How Americans Are Reacting to Trump’s COVID-19 Diagnosis.” Professor Gadarian has worked with a team of other researchers since March to survey Americans about their opinion on COVID-19. Informed by this work, Gadarian believes that public response to President Trump’s diagnosis relies heavily on how long Trump remains ill, his recovery length, and whether he will begin to wear masks. “Attitudes and behaviors around COVID-19 have become really concrete at this point — it will take a lot to move them in a significant, lasting way,” Gadarian says.
