“COVID-19 Threatens Voting in Nursing Homes as Election Approaches.”
Nina Kohn, the David M. Levy Professor of Law and faculty director of online education in the College of Law, was quoted in the AARP story “COVID-19 Threatens Voting in Nursing Homes as Election Approaches.” The pandemic has made it difficult for many nursing home residents to cast ballots for the 2020 election, as residents cannot leave the facilities and voter registration organizers are not allowed to visit. Kohn, an expert on the civil rights of older persons, says that “their institutionalization plus their underlying health conditions makes it very hard to participate in our national dialogues and discussion,” but that the elderly is “a group, perhaps more than any other, that needs the vote to defend their interests.”
