Danielle Smith, director of the Renée Crown University Honors Program and professor of African American studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, wrote the Truthout opinion piece “Black Lives Matter is a Continuum of Black Protest Over Centuries.” “Today, Black Lives Matter is a continuum of protest against systemic discrimination, against physical violence by the apparatus of the state, against economic violence, against environmental violence, against interpersonal violence, and all forms of structural violence,” says Smith.
