Whitney Phillips, assistant professor in the Department of Communication and Rhetorical Studies in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, was interviewed for the Rolling Stone article “The Birth of QAmom.” Phillips, who is an expert on disinformation and digital ethics, says that QAnon has grown in following during the pandemic, as there are “people entering into this world, thinking it’s about one thing, feeling good about connecting to it, and then it exposes them to all kinds of polluted information.”
