Robert Thompson, Trustee Professor of television, radio and film and director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was quoted by The Mercury News for the article “Suspect achievement: Are the Astros’ successes emblematic of a broader American problem?” The MLB team came under fire when it was discovered they cheated to win the 2017 World Series championship game. Thompson, a, expert on popular culture, says “the games provide a symbolic way of expressing something much bigger than getting a ball to the right place. Sports tells a story of the overarching change we’re seeing in our society.”
