Robert Thompson, Trustee Professor of television, radio and film and director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the Newhouse School, was quoted by MarketWatch for the article “$30 to watch ‘Mulan’ on Disney is either outrageous or an amazing deal, depending on who you ask.” Thompson, an expert on the film industry and popular culture, believes that listing the new Disney movie at a price is a test to advertise a premium title while at-home streaming grows. “It’s an experiment. What we’re watching develop before our very eyes is the industry figuring out how much they could charge for this kind of giant picture,” says Thompson.
