As Syracuse University prepares for the Fall 2020 semester, Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Innovation J. Michael Haynie is hosting “SU Safe Weekly Roundup,” a series of virtual update discussions for University community members with an syr.edu email address.

The hourlong Zoom sessions are Fridays from 1 to 2 p.m. ET and feature Haynie and other University leaders and subject matter experts speaking on issues such as public health, the student experience, teaching, learning and researching during a pandemic.

This week’s session will focus on staff issues and return to work in preparation for the Fall 2020 semester. Joining Haynie will be Andy Gordon, senior vice president and chief human resource officer, and members of the HR team; Ramesh Raina, interim vice president for research; Rob Hradsky, vice president for the student experience; and Chris Johnson, associate provost for academic affairs.

The session can be accessed through this link using an syr.edu email account. Participation for this session—as well as for others in the series—is limited to 500 attendees. For those unable to participate live, the link to the video will be posted on Syracuse.edu/Fall2020 and on the University’s campus social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter.

The series seeks to provide clarity on the path forward to in-person instruction for the Fall 2020 semester; answer questions and address concerns of community members about returning to campus; and elicit feedback and suggestions.

The Zoom sessions are captioned and run in a “webinar” format. Attendees can ask questions via the Q&A function.

Remaining sessions are scheduled for:

  • Aug. 7
  • Aug. 14

The recording of the July 24 session is now online. It focused on the student experience for Fall 2020, and featured Haynie; Amanda Nicholson, interim deputy senior vice president; Peter Vanable, dean of the Graduate School; Marianne Thomson, associate vice president and dean of students; and Meredith Davis, associate vice president of student engagement.

Please continue to read email updates and visit Syracuse.edu/Fall2020 for the latest news and information about the University’s Fall 2020 planning.
