Gladys McCormick, associate professor of history in the Maxwell School, was quoted by in the National Post story “Mexico City police chief shot in assassination attempt, blames drug cartel.” The assassination attempt shot and injured the chief of police, and killed two of his bodyguards. Professor McCormick, who serves as the the Jay and Debe Moskowitz Endowed Chair in Mexico-U.S. Relations and is an expert on modern Mexican history, says the “assassination attempt served as a warning that ‘nobody is off limits’ and was reminiscent of previous attacks on officials during Mexico’s drug war.” s
