“Come fall, universities must expand vision”
Nina Kohn, the David M. Levy Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Online Education at the College of Law, wrote a commentary, “Come fall, universities must expand vision” for the Albany Times Union. Many “universities and colleges across the country plan to offer fall semester classes online to accommodate students unwilling or unable to come to campus,” but Professor Kohn recognizes that many faculty and students felt that “education suffered” this spring when universities moved online. Kohn, who is an expert on online education, argues that “if universities want students to accept online education as a substitute for on-campus learning, they must do better come fall.” Kohn believes that “this will require investing in teaching-oriented training for faculty,” that not only trains faculty “simply how to teach online, but to teach well online.”
