“China Demand for ‘Other Unforeseeable Event’ Out In Trade Deal Was Possible Red Flag”

Mary Lovely, Professor of Economics in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, was quoted by The Huffington Post for “China Demand For ‘Other Unforeseeable Event’ Out In Trade Deal Was Possible Red Flag,” which also ran in Yahoo. As President Trump’s trade deal with China was established, China “may have provided a missed clue about the coronavirus outbreak already unfolding there: insistence on a provision allowing for an out in case of “a natural disaster or other unforeseeable event.” Professor Lovely, an expert on international economics and trade with China, stated that the situation between the U.S. and China “is not a trade agreement. This is more like a hostage situation.”
