Construction Projects to Temporarily Close Forestry Drive, Reduce Traffic to One Lane on Sims Drive
A summer utility project at the corner of Sims and Forestry drives is underway to improve underground steam distribution on Main Campus. The construction will require the closure of Forestry Drive to the west of the Sims Drive intersection. The closure is planned to begin Monday, July 8, and will last approximately three weeks. During this time, vehicles should use an alternate route around campus (e.g. Waverly Avenue).
On Sims Drive, sidewalk and road improvements will begin next week to support the completion of the Barnes Center at The Arch construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane at times from the Carnegie Library south through the intersection of Sims and Forestry drives for about two weeks. Construction flaggers will direct traffic. A full closure of this same area will be required in early August for approximately two days to complete final asphalt paving. The timing of this work will be schedule and weather dependent.
Delays in the proposed work may occur as a result of weather, unforeseen circumstances and/or for safety reasons. In the event that there is a significant delay, Facilities Services will issue revised information as soon as possible.
For everyone’s safety, you are encouraged to remain alert in work areas, watch for route changes and follow the pedestrian signs.
