For Second Year in a Row, University Receives Record Number of First-Year Applications

Syracuse University Office of Admissions has once again announced a record-setting year for first-year applications. For the first time in the University’s history, applications have surpassed 35,000.

As of March 29, the number of applications received totaled 35,155. According to Dean of Undergraduate Admissions Maurice Harris, the two consecutive years of record-setting undergraduate applications shows the value prospective students and families see in the Syracuse University experience.

“With the enhancements made to the student experience—in and out of the classroom—through the Academic Strategic Plan, Invest Syracuse and Campus Framework, prospective students and families continue to recognize the value and quality of a Syracuse University education in preparing our students for future success,” says Harris.

In addition to the record-setting number of applications, the applicant pool is one of the most academically competitive. The diversity of the applicant pool also remains strong, including growing interest from international students.

“As a global campus community, Syracuse University continually attracts, recruits and enrolls talented and diverse scholars from across the world. This year’s applicant pool not only reflects our commitment to academic excellence, but also our longstanding commitment to access, inclusion and opportunity,” adds Harris.
