Sociology Professor Writes ‘Our Problem is Bigger Than Opioids’

Shannon Monnat, an associate professor of sociology in the Maxwell School and Lerner Chair for Public Health Promotion, authored an opinion piece for U.S. News and World Report “Our Problem Is Bigger Than Opioids.”

Monnat’s recent research showed that, “in addition to access to opioids, there are three main groups of factors that explain why fatal drug overdose rates are higher in some places than others: economy/work, family and community.”
