Professor of Law Provides Commentary on National Emergency Declaration
William Banks, Professor of Law Emeritus, was quoted about President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration in several prominent media outlets, including CNN, The New York Times, China Daily, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, Vox, and New York Magazine.
In the New York Times article, Banks said, “This is a real institutional threat to the separation of powers to use emergency powers to enable the president to bypass Congress to build a wall on his own initiative that our elected representatives have chosen not to fund.”
Banks also contributed to a Newsday opinion piece “An emergency at the border?” In this story, he makes a case against President Trump’s decision to invoke a national emergency.
