You may have noticed “Princeton” and “Waltham” around campus this fall: attending classes, hanging out on the Shaw Quad, living on South Campus and making new friends. These two friendly faces aren’t here for the academics but a different type…
University’s Annual Service of Commemoration to Be Held March 20
Syracuse University will hold its annual Service of Commemoration, honoring faculty, staff and students who have passed away since Jan. 1, 2018, on Wednesday, March 20, at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.
The service will include prayer and music by University Organist Anne Laver and the Hendricks Chapel Choir. The names of those who have passed away will be read, and candles will be lighted collectively in their memory.
The service is inspired by the Remembrance Scholar motto of “Look Back, Act Forward,” a call to action to remember those we have lost and act forward in their memory.
“Our campus community includes an inspiring collection of students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and friends. The Service of Commemoration creates a sacred space for us to pause, gather, grieve, pay respects and discern how we can best honor the legacies of those who came before by offering a thriving world to those who will one day come after us. This is a special opportunity,” says Brian Konkol, dean of Hendricks Chapel.
A reception will follow in the chapel’s Noble Room. There, remembrance books will be available for inscription.
If you know of someone who should be honored, please forward his or her name and affiliation to Kelly Rodoski at firstname.lastname@example.org by Friday, March 8.
