University Monitoring Winter Weather and Travel Conditions for Thursday, Jan. 10

Syracuse University continues to monitor weather conditions and assess travel conditions to and from campus pertaining to the Winter Storm Warning issued for Wednesday, Jan. 9, through the early evening of Thursday, Jan. 10. This effort includes reviewing the most up-to-date National Weather Service data and forecasting, and consulting with an independent meteorologist about what to expect, especially as it relates to morning and afternoon commutes.

Based on current conditions, the University expects to remain open and operational on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Campus employees are expected to report to campus per their usual schedules. However, and as always, campus community members should be aware and take precautions when severe weather is in the area. While the Physical Plant team works hard to keep snow cleared from campus streets and sidewalks, anyone traveling to campus by vehicle should consider adding time for slower travel on main roads and streets.

If community members experience weather conditions that could affect their safety when traveling to and from the University, they are encouraged to use their judgment as it relates to travel. Faculty and staff concerned about their safety should contact their department head or supervisor, respectively.

The University will continue to evaluate weather and road conditions through the afternoon and evening hours. If a change in the University’s operating status becomes necessary, it will be announced:

  • via campus email;
  • on the University’s campus Twitter account @SUCampus;
  • on the University’s campus Facebook page @SU Campus;
  • on the web at news.syr.edu and syracuse.edu; and
  • via the Syracuse University radio station WAER-FM/88.3 as well as other local media outlets.

Only Syracuse University’s SU News team is authorized to transmit to the news media announcements about the University’s operating status.
