Chinese Firms Avoiding The Burden Of Tariffs

Mary Lovely, professor of economics in the Maxwell School, was quoted by Reuters for the story “Surprises lurk in Trump’s China tariff list, from thermostats to vaping devices.”

The first round of the $34 billion tariffs are set to take place next month. Lovely clarifies, that most of the companies that will suffer from the first rounds of tariffs are not actually Chinese firms. “People who say we can hurt China more because we buy more from them don’t really understand how the trade flows work,” she states.
